Specially adapted for mobility and flexibility, the FN SCAR®-SC features semi-automatic or selective fire only, a non-reciprocating loading handle and various add-ons. This includes a red dot sight, a tactical flashlight, various handguards and a silencer. All of these additives have been tested and certified by FN Herstal to provide reliable and durable performance even under the most difficult conditions.

The FN SCAR®-SC comes standard with a telescopic stock. Optional stocks include a fixed, folding, adjustable (length and height), and hollow or convex plate stock, and a folding butt stock with an offset for aiming and shooting with a riot visor or bulletproof helmet. Existing FN SCAR® users already know how to handle this rifle, minimizing training time.

Manufacturer SIG Sauer unveils its new MCX Rattler ultra-compact assault rifle/carbine in 5.56mm and .300 Blackout at the 2017 US Army Association Annual Meeting. The Rattler is an ambitious project to bring the reliable AR type short rifle to both the military and civilian markets. Historically, the development of well-functioning short-barreled gas rifles has been a major challenge, so Rattler designers have a difficult task ahead of them.
Around the Rattler, the SIG booth was filled with conference goers, eager to see the new shorty. Unfortunately, the booth was also poorly lit, and I did not get high-quality photographs. So at the end of this article, I've also attached some photos of the Rattler to the SIG press to balance that out.

SIG has a helpful demo of Rattler barrels and handguards. At the top right we see a 5.5″ barrel, at the bottom - a 7.5″ barrel. The elongated Rattler handguard can be seen on the left.

My impressions of the Rattler are generally positive, with some caveats. First, the good: this shotgun is equipped with all the amenities you would expect from a modern top-notch AR-type shotgun, including a reversible magazine latch. In general, for such a small pistol, the shoulder is comfortable, not cramped. The unusual looking pistol grip is also quite comfortable. However, I feel that the stock is not the best design. It uses an incredibly short joystick that forces the shooter to carry the gun deep in their shoulder pocket, which I find uncomfortable and unnatural. Considering where the thumb is with the magazine folded, I'm not sure why SIG chose not to just make it an inch or so longer.
